Evelyn does not dance like other zouk female dancers, flows like waves in ocean, flows , rippled at times. it is Evelyn Zouk.
She was trainned as a comtemporary dancer once which is required to show a great amount of self expressions with ballet foundation. This kind of dance style is hard to grasp for those who have never learnt ballet or comtemporary dance. She established her own dance style by learning under various teachers.
One thing I really like about Zouk is we can intergrate various dance techniques into our zouk dancing according to variety of music. Thus making Zouk dancing self expressive, unique and exciting. One of joyness of zouk dancing is experiencing surprises by dancing with who have their own style at dance floor.
Evelyn is differ from many zouk dancers in the way she pursues her feeling. It is not tacky like many female dancers who emphasis on their femininity.
In my eye, Evelyn together with Xandy, they are largely contibuting on revolutionising an old concept of partner dancing. The choreography of zouk opera they performed was outstanding and it actually leads zouk lambada, in fact, to the next level. I liked when Xandy said at Zoukfest 2014, "it is 2014, we do not lead a lady, we invite a lady. If she did not accept it, we invite different way" it is a piece of performing art, a current style of zouk lambada. Well, If I carefully saying, zouk lambada always keep on progressing and even their styles get age as time goes by, like media technology. New waves keep on coming and we are the generation who will form next zouk lambada scenes.
We do not have to copy her at all.We all have to own our style of dancing.
The follwing are tips I learnt from her workshop
" The beauty of flowing and throwing" " always pull or push" " Tip toe all the way" " self expression"
She does not move just straight, she always add her move circular and diagonally. " Extra fast and slow " She does not only use fingers or hands. She used elbows and arms and shoulders effectively.
The 2 hours lesson with her made me another change. Almost all familier dancers who danced with me last night complimented me on how I danced beautifully!! (wow) Another even said he had never danced a lady who expresses herself like I do!
